DPWH turns over modular hemodialysis facility to NKTI

The first modular hemodialysis facility at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) in Quezon City has been completed. The facility, which is intended for coronavirus disease (COVID19) patients who need to undergo regular hemodialysis treatment, was turned over by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to the hospital on Wednesday, May 5.

It has a total of 20 rooms that can cater to 60 dialysis patients per day. It will be manned by healthcare personnel working in three shifts daily.

Built using pre-fabricated panels, the facility features wide hallways, 14 regular dialysis rooms, two isolation rooms, and four hepatitis rooms.

It is also equipped with a nursing station, closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring and paging system, water treatment room, airconditioning equipment, and generator set for alternative power source.

A 16-room modular dormitory intended for 32 frontliners was also turned over to the NKTI. The dormitory features a toilet and bath with a water heater in each room, spacious airconditioned hallway, living area, dining area, kitchen, and laundry areas for the health workers of NKTI.

“The unveiling of the latest completed health facility project manifests the government’s firm dedication to supplement the overwhelming medical needs of Filipinos, especially amidst this national health emergency,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said during the turnover ceremony.

The event was attended by Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, who heads the DPWH Task Force; Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco T. Duque III; Health Undersecretary and Treatment Czar Leopoldo J. Vega; and NKTI Executive Director Dr. Rose Marie O. Rosete-Liquete.

Also present were Inter-Agency Task Force Chief Implementer and Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr., COVID-19 National Task Force Deputy Chief Implementer and Testing Czar Secretary Vince B. Dizon, Presidential spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque, and Quezon City Mayor Joy G. Belmonte.
