‘Amihan’ to bring light rains over northern, central Luzon

The cold weather-associated northeast monsoon or “amihan” may continue to bring cloudy and rainy weather over northern and Central Luzon until today, Thursday, Oct. 28, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Wednesday, Oct. 27.

In the next 24 hours, cloudy skies with light amihan rains are expected over Aurora and Quezon provinces.

Bulacan, Tarlac, Zambales, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley may also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to have fair weather conditions due to partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA reminded the public to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said the amihanmayprevailover northern Luzon in the next few days.

He also noted that the PAGASA has not monitored a tropical cyclone that will likely enter the country’s area of responsibility until the weekend.

Estareja said posts currently circulating online that a typhoon or super typhoon will hit the country this week are “fake news.”

Meanwhile, a gale warning is currently in effect due to strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon, causing rough to very rough seas over the northern seaboard of northern Luzon, particularly Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and the northern coast of Ilocos Norte.

Under these conditions, fishing boats and other small seacrafts should not venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels should watch out for big waves, PAGASA said.
