₱40-M hazard pay for provincial government workers

(Tara Yap)

The provincial government of Iloilo is releasing an estimated ₱40 million as hazard pay for those who reported for work when COVID-19 cases surged for a two-month period.

In an Oct. 26 executive order, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. approved the release of hazard pay for an estimated 3,000 provincial government workers.

The releasing of the hazard pay is in line with the administrative order by President Duterte last June that there should be hazard pay for government workers in areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) status.

The hazard pay covers regular, contractual, and job hire workers who physically reported when the national government placed the province of Iloilo under ECQ from July 16 to Aug. 7 and under MECQ from May 31 to July 15 and from Aug. 8 to 31.

Iloilo Provincial administrator Suzette Mamon said that each worker would be entitled to ₱300 hazard pay per day.

Mamon added that the workers would have to submit necessary documents for the payout, which should start this week.
