New PRO-7 chief pushes effective anti-crime strategy

By CALVIN CORDOVA

CEBU CITY – The newly installed chief of the Police Regional OfficeCentral Visayas (PRO-7) vowed to hit the ground running as he pushed for an effective crime prevention and solution strategy.

Brig. Gen. Anthony Abellada Aberin urged PRO-7 personnel to get back to basics for them to perform effectively.

“I believe that in order to properly carry out our tasks, we need to get back to basics and concentrate on crime prevention and solutions. Let us always be reminded of our fundamental duty as law enforcers to prevent crimes, pre-empt crimes, solve crimes, organize and mobility toward a more peaceful, secured, and progressive region,” Aberin said in his speech during the turnover ceremony on Monday, March 20, at the PRO-7 headquarters here.

Aberin replaced Brig. Gen. Jerry Bearis whose stint at PRO-7 only lasted for two months.

“I look forward to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead of us. Together, we will hit the ground running by introducing and implementing programs and strategies focusing on the peace and security framework of our chief PNP,” said Aberin.

For PRO-7 personnel to be effective, they have to be an “AAA policeman,” Aberin said.

“The three As were coined after my initials. An AAA policeman is an able, active, and allied police officer,” said Aberin.

“Being able means that we have the skills and resources. We need to get the job done,” Aberin said.

Aberin said active means a police officer is always on the move, ready to take bold steps to prevent crime and improve crime solutions.

“Being allied means that we recognize the importance of partnerships and collaboration. We will work closely with our stakeholders, including government agencies, private sectors, and civil society groups,” Aberin said.

Aside from the anti-criminality campaign, Aberin said that under his leadership, PRO-7 will also focus on addressing illegal gambling.

Ending clandestine online cockfighting or e-sabong operations will be one of his priorities, Aberin said. “We all know that some commanders were relieved because of this e-sabong,” Aberin said.
