Pangandaman wins ‘PH Woman Leaders Award’

Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman bagged the “Philippines’ Woman Leaders Award” from the World Women Leadership Congress (WWLC).

The WWLC award recognized “the influential role of women leaders in the development of modern economy, technology, and administrative methodologies that promote the advancement of governments and business organizations according to the standards

of global competitiveness.”

Budget Undersecretary Goddes Hope O. Libiran accepted the award on behalf of Pangandaman.

“I am happy and honored to receive this award on behalf of Department of Budget and Management Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman, who is the lone woman member of this country’s economic team, and the only Muslim member of the Cabinet of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.,” Libiran said.

“She really is an exceptional and charismatic leader, who rose through the ranks from being a Senate research assistant to becoming chief of staff of the late Senate President Edgardo J. Angara, and then, later on, worked as an undersecretary at DBM and assistant governor at the Central Bank,” she added.

“Interesting trivia about Sec. Mina: She is a Maranao princess, yes, she has royal blood, and she holds the rank of a rear admiral or a 2-star general of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary. She continues to rise by lifting others up. Again, this is a much-deserved award,” the DBM official further said.

In the long term, the WWLC seeks to encourage the private and public sectors to promote women leaders; support the women empowerment strategy to activate and accelerate the role of working women in institutions through various initiatives.

WWLC also seeks to highlight the achievements of women leaders and appraise their success in regional and global leadership; and draw the attention of senior leaders of institutions toward the role of women in the development of society. (Chino S. Leyco)
