PNP logs 57th COVID death

A 31-year-old policeman from Central Luzon died of complications a er being infected with the coronavirus.

He was the 57th fatality of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Police Lt Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, commander of the Administrative Support for COVID-19 Task Force (ASCOTF), said the police non-commissioned officer died on May 4.

The PNP recorded a fast death rate in the organization since the upsurge of COVID-19 cases in March this year.

It was also the time when the PNP recorded the highest infection in one day with more than 300 new cases.

Also in the middle of March, the PNP isolation and medical facility at Camp Crame were swarmed with newly infected personnel.

Based on the data of the PNP Health Service, a total of 20,616 PNP personnel have been infected since last year.
