Lucy may seek Senate seat – Mayor Gomez

By MARIE TONETTE MARTICIO

ORMOC CITY – Leyte 4th District Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez may run for a higher post in next year’s national elections.

This was hinted by her popular husband and city Mayor Richard Gomez, saying that if they will get the full support of the Visayas region, the former model and actress will be gunning for a Senate seat.

Gomez, now on his second term as the top executive of the seaside city, has declined to run for a national position despite the various recognitions and awards he has received as a leader.

“For now it is not in my plans. Kailangan ko muna ayusin ‘tong Ormoc at ‘yung district namin so dito muna ako magfofocus,” he shared.

Gomen, however, said his wife, who has been constantly leading in senatorial surveys, might take a shot and run for senator.

Lucy was reelected to the post in 2016 after beating Violeta Codilla.

“Kung maganda ‘yung survey niya at susuportahan siya ng buong Region 8 o ng Visayan Region malaking bagay,” Gomez said .“It is essential na may senator tayo from the Visayas to promote our funding for infrastructure and programs.”

On the other hand, the mayor maintained that although a higher office is appealing, he will not force her to run as a senator but will respect her decision where she could serve the people more.

“What she wants is where she could serve best. We’re still thinking about it and I am just here to support whatever her decision is,” Gomez said.
