2 teens drown in Cagayan River

CAGAYAN -- Two teenage students drowned while swimming with four friends in Cagayan River in Centro 5, Tuguegarao City, Wednesday afternoon.

Elmer Maquiniana, 13, and Kenneth Magora, 16, drowned at around 3:30 p.m., police said.

The victims’ companions -- Valen Jay Allayban, Ramil Maquiniana, Mark David Allayban, and Shia Cedrick Labasan -- immediately sought assistance for the rescue of the duo.

Tuguegarao City Rescue 1111 and Tuguegarao City Police personnel led by Police Chief Master Sgt. Joseph Orpiana recovered the two victims at 5:20 p.m.

The rescuers rushed the victims to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) but they were declared dead on arrival, according to Police Staff Sgt. Justinn Joshua dela Cruz.
